“Sometimes, what seems impractical can still be appreciated for its practical visual impact.” - Satabdi Jena
Satabdi's journey into the world of art began with classical dancing, where she learned to appreciate the beauty and expressiveness of movement. However, it was her love for the nature of clay - its rawness and ability to bring out emotions - that ultimately inspired her to create products, marking the beginning of The Strange Co.
She has always been an avid listener, finding inspiration in the conversations she hears from people around her. It is through these interactions that she is able to create a whole universe of Misfits, different and strange characters, each with a unique story to tell. But it’s precisely these differences that make them so intriguing. Her design philosophy is a fusion of two different worlds - the functional and the non-functional. She believes that art doesn't always have to serve a practical purpose, and that sometimes the most beautiful creations are the ones that exist purely for their own sake.
With her art, she celebrates individuality, highlighting the beauty in each character’s quirks and mood swings. From the shy introvert to the flamboyant extrovert, she brings them all to life in a way that is both captivating and thought-provoking. This is the world of our visual artist - a master storyteller who weaves tales that capture the imagination and transports the viewer to a world of wonder and intrigue.
